When I talk about Kaktus Chips, most people respond with, “What are Kaktus Chips?”. It is shocking to me how many people have yet to try our Kaktus Chips. Maybe you are one of them and that is why you are reading this. Maybe you have heard of them but have never tried them. Maybe you are like my friend Gary who always wants somebody else to make them for him because he can’t ever seem to make them right. Maybe you are a lover of Kaktus Chips and just can’t get enough of them. Well, whichever category you may fit into to, here’s hoping that all of you will eventually fit into the last one. A KAKTUS CHIP LOVER!
So how do I describe what a Kaktus Chip is? That is actually quite easy. They are nothing like you’ve tried (well maybe) but they are sure to keep you coming back for more. They are a great alternative to potato chips and they come in 3 different varieties: corn, potato, and wheat. They are not a ready-made snack so you get to enjoy making them to your liking. Here is what the Kaktus Chips look like before and after they are prepared:
Kaktus Wheat Checkers
Kaktus Wheatmore
Kaktus Potato Strings
Kaktus Potato Checkers
Kaktus Corn Chips
There are times when I enjoy different seasonings but I always seem to come back to my favourite: All Dressed. The Wheat Checkers are our best seller. They are just good all around. The Wheatmore has a bit of a chewier texture which makes it also fun to eat. The Potato Checkers and Strings are the lightest variety, which makes it perfect for kids of all ages. Not to mention the Strings look like fries (but much healthier). And the Corn is of course gluten free. This variety is the hardest of the chips and is quite different than the potato and wheat. They are my favourite.
I often get asked if the Potato Kaktus Chips are gluten free since potatoes are gluten free. Would make sense right? However, for those of you who are legitimately gluten intolerant I always say they should go for the Kaktus Corn. The Kaktus Potato has a small amount of wheat added to it which allows the expansion of the chip to create that nice, light texture. If you are however, gluten free minded, you may still enjoy the Kaktus Potato.

It will give you a good idea of what all happens when these are made. Even still, pictures and videos don’t do them justice as there is nothing like watching them expand in the pot right before your very eyes. So when you decide to give them a try, drop me a line and tell me what you think. Here’s to happy snacking!
Good job on the video and pictures demonstrating this wonderful snack, it has been my go-to snack for traveling with the kids when they were small, and much healthier than potato chips. I found that when I would make potato stick Kaktus & season with cheddar cheese seasoning, it was like eating Cheetos.
